Purpose:

The Commissioner of Lobbyists is responsible for investigating alleged violations of the Act or the Code of Conduct, denying or cancelling a lobbyist’s registration where the Act or Code has been breached, and ordering, upon application, that some or all registration information be kept confidential.  The Commissioner may also recommend changes to the Code of Conduct.

Structure:

The Lieutenant Governor in Council shall appoint a person under the great seal to be the Commissioner of Lobbyists.

Competency Profile:

The Commissioner of Lobbyists should possess the following core competencies:

• Knowledge of lobbying activities, as well as associated legislation and code of conduct;
• Investigation experience; and
• Ability to prepare and deliver presentations.

Qualifications:

• High ethical standards and integrity;
• Strong written and oral communication skills; and
• Legal expertise would be an asset, however a combination of education and experience will be considered.

Time Commitments:

The Commissioner of Lobbyists is required to work a minimum of 10 hours per week.

Term:

The person appointed shall hold office during good behaviour for a term of 5 years and may be reappointed for further terms.
