Purpose:

The Architects Disciplinary Panel is the body from which an adjudication tribunal is chosen to hear complaints concerning practice that have been forwarded by the registrar.

Structure:

The Board shall appoint at least 10 architects who are not members of the board, one of whom shall be appointed to serve as chairperson, and the minister shall appoint at least 3 persons who are not architects to represent the public interest, who shall together constitute a Disciplinary Panel. For the purpose of dealing with complaints referred to the disciplinary panel, the chairperson of the Disciplinary Panel shall appoint from it an adjudication tribunal consisting of 3 persons, of whom 2 shall be architects and one shall be a representative of the public interest. The chairperson of the Disciplinary Panel shall appoint one of the architects on an adjudication tribunal to be the chairperson.

Competency Profile:

Diversity in the backgrounds, skills and experience of appointed Disciplinary Panel members can enhance the effectiveness of the Panel. Examples of such backgrounds may include:

  • Strategic Management and Organizational Change;
  • Legal Expertise;
  • Experience writing or hearing appeals;
  • Public Relations;
  • Public Sector Administration;
  • Governance;
  • Human Resources;
  • Experience with Self-Regulating Organizations;
  • Previous Board Experience;
  • Analytical Skills;
  • Executive Experience;
  • Financial Expertise/Literacy; and,
  • Decision Making Skills.

Qualifications:

  • High ethical standards and integrity;
  • Appreciation of the responsibilities to the public;
  • Flexible, responsive and willing to consider others’ opinions;
  • Capable of a wide perspective on issues;
  • Ability to listen and work as a team member;
  • No direct or indirect conflict of interest; and,
  • Strong reasoning skills.

Time Commitments:

Two members of the Disciplinary Panel convene to hear complaints concerning practice that have been forwarded by the registrar. There are no regularly scheduled meetings as the Disciplinary Panel is called upon as needed.

Term:

Of the members first appointed to the disciplinary panel, one half shall be appointed for a term of 2 years and the remainder for a term of 3 years and all subsequent appointments of members to the Disciplinary Panel shall be for a term of 3 years. Notwithstanding the expiry of their term, a member of the Disciplinary Panel continues to be a member until they are re-appointed or their replacement is appointed. Persons appointed to the Disciplinary Panel may be reappointed.

Vacancy Profile:

The Architects Disciplinary Panel is seeking to fill one position to represent public interest. Architects will not be considered for public interest positions. Expressions of interest are being sought from individuals who possess the background, experience and skill-set identified, and who can bring a unique perspective to the table. Consideration will also be given to a variety of demographic factors to ensure the board is representative of the population they serve.
