The Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council (ArtsNL) is a non-profit Crown agency created in 1980 by The Arts Council Act. Its mission is to foster, promote, and develop the arts of the province and the arts of groups indigenous to the province, and to advise the minister on matters related to development of the arts and arts policy. The Council supports the creation and production of works in the province, the study and enjoyment of those works, and public awareness of the arts. Council receives an annual grant of five million dollars from the Province to support a variety of granting programs, program delivery, office administration, and communications. It also seeks support from the public and private sector. It supports the following artistic disciplines: dance, film, multidisciplinary arts, music, theatre, visual art, and literature. The Council shall consist of 13 members to be appointed by the Lieutenant-Governor in Council.
The membership of the council shall provide geographic representation of the province and council shall be comprised as follows:

Members of council should be available to meet three times per year for one to two day business meetings and six times a year for two-hour grant ratification meetings. Council committees normally meet three to four times per year. Council members are also expected to spend additional time to review materials and prepare for business, grant ratification and committee meetings.
Each member of the Council may be appointed for a term of not longer than three years and is eligible for reappointment, but a member may not serve more than two continuous terms. A member of council shall continue to hold office until he or she is reappointed or a new member is appointed.

Expressions of interest being sought from professionals who possess the background, experience and skill-set identified in the board profile and who can bring unique perspectives to the table. Consideration will also be given to a variety of demographic factors to ensure the board is representative of the population they serve, including geographic representation from Labrador.
