Purpose:

The Newfoundland and Labrador Film Development Corporation (NLFDC) was formed in 1997 as a Crown corporation to promote the development and growth of the film and video industry in Newfoundland and Labrador, and to increase the visibility of Newfoundland and Labrador as a location for film activity. As film commission for the province, this includes promoting Newfoundland and Labrador worldwide as a place to undertake film and video activity, serving as the film and video focal point at all levels, and supporting sector growth using investment and equity capital. The NLFDC receives an annual grant from the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation. 

Structure:

The Board of Directors of the NLFDC can consist of between one and nine Directors, including the Chair and the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation or a designate as Government’s ex-officio representative.  There is no limit on the number of terms a member can serve.

Core competencies that will be considered are:

  • Arts and Culture sector knowledge and experience
  • Governance
  • Strategic planning
  • Financial expertise, including knowledge of direct equity tax credit programs
  • Executive/Leadership experience
  • Marketing and public relations
  • Legal expertise
  • Human Resource Management

Qualifications:

Members of the Board should possess the following personal attributes:

  • Strong reading comprehension and critical thinking skills
  • High ethical standards and integrity
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality on all corporation issues
  • Ability to listen and work as a team member
  • Flexible, responsive and willing to consider other board members opinions
  • No direct or indirect conflict of interest
  • Ability to travel to board meetings

Time Commitments:

The Board meets quarterly.

Term:

Directors are appointed for a three-year term. There is no limit on the number of terms a member can serve.
