Remuneration

As per section 8(c) of the Egg Scheme, 2000, the EFNL may establish and fix the wages, salaries and remuneration of the directors and employees of the EFNL, including travelling expenses.

Purpose:

Egg Farmers of Newfoundland and Labrador (EFNL) was established by the Egg Scheme, 2000, under the Natural Products Marketing Act.  EFNL is the regulatory body, which provides for the effective promotion, control and regulation of the production and marketing of eggs within the Province, including the prohibition of the production and marketing of eggs within the Province.  EFNL has the authority to administer the Egg Scheme, 2000.

Structure:

EFNL shall consist of not more than seven directors. Not more than six members of EFNL shall be elected from and by the registered producers. One director shall be appointed by the Minister.

Competency Profile:

The appointed member to EFNL should possess the following core competencies:

  • knowledge of Newfoundland and Labrador's agriculture industry (particularly the supply-managed sector);
  • knowledge of applicable legislation;
  • previous board experience or board governance;
  • public advocacy;
  • financial literacy;
  • member should not be an active egg producer; and
  • member should be active in commercial poultry or dairy production.

Qualifications:

The following are considerations in selecting members:

  • high ethical standards and integrity;
  • appreciation of the responsibilities to the public;
  • flexible, responsive and willing to consider others’ opinions;
  • capable of a wide perspective on issues;
  • ability to listen and work as a team member;
  • no direct or indirect conflict of interest (member should not be a commercial egg producer);
  • strong reasoning skills; and
  • ability to effectively exchange information. 

Time Commitments:

Members of EFNL should be available to meet approximately five times per year. Board members may also be expected to spend additional time to review materials and prepare for Board and Committee meetings.

Term:

All seven members of EFNL (six elected and one appointed) shall hold office for a period of two years.

Vacancy Profile:

The Egg Farmers of Newfoundland and Labrador is seeking to fill one upcoming vacancy. Commerical egg producers will not be considered for this member position. Expressions of interest are being sought from individuals who possess the background, experience and skill-set identified above, and who can bring unique persepctives to the table. Consideration will also be given to a variety of demographic factors to ensure the board is representative of the population they serve. Previous involvment or experience with agencies, boards or commissions would be considered an asset.
