Chicken Farmers of Newfoundland and Labrador (CFNL) is a non-profit Crown Agency, which was established in 1981 by the Newfoundland and Labrador Chicken Marketing Scheme under the Natural Products Marketing Act. CFNL is the regulatory body, which provides for the effective promotion, control and regulation of the production and marketing of chicken within the Province, including the prohibition of production and marketing within the Province. CFNL has the authority to administer the Newfoundland and Labrador Chicken Marketing Scheme.
CFNL shall consist of no less than three and no more than five members to be appointed by the Minister. The Chairperson and the Vice-Chairperson shall be the Newfoundland and Labrador representative and alternate, respectively, to the Chicken Farmers of Canada.
The appointed members should collectively possess the following core competencies:
Members of the Chicken Farmers of Newfoundland and Labrador should be available to meet approximately seven times per year. Board members may also be expected to spend additional time to review materials and prepare for Board meetings.
The members of the commodity board shall hold office during pleasure of the Minister. Members of the commodity board are eligible for reappointment. The Minister shall appoint the chairperson and vice-chairperson of the commodity board for a term which the Minister may, in his or her discretion, determine.
